– The Orient Express, a long-distance passenger train service created in 1883, has arrived to Turkey's western border gate of Kapıkule in Edirne province having departed from Paris, and was welcomed by a group of folk dancers at the Edirne railway station.

However the “express” train has not been able to cross into Istanbul by train since the railway has been limited to the Tekirdağ station in the last couple of years. Thus, passangers have to be brought to Istanbul by buses from Tekirdağ, rather than train.

The “Orient Express” is best known with famous British author Agatha Christie's renowned novel “Murder on the Orient Express”, related to the luxurious passenger train. The Orient Express had been put to service by Belgium businessman Georges Nagelmackers and had departed from Paris for its first journey on October 4, 1883.

The five-day-long journey of “train of riches”, carrying around 120 passengers from various countries to Turkey, claimed to have cost around 17,000 dollars per passenger.

Passingers had a break at the border gate, welcomed by a folk dance show along with a Turkish cuisine feast.

After the entry procedures, the train is expected to arrive to Çerkezköy district of western province of Tekirdağ, before they it heads to Istanbul city, by buses.
