International survey reveals top destinations for expats

The InterNations, global social network of expatriates, has released a research report showing the happiness and living situation of expatriates across the world.

The detailed graphic demonstrated Ecuador has marked the top satisfaction rate as expat destination, followed by Mexico, Malta, Singapore, Luxembourg and New Zealand, while Nigeria, Kuwait and Greece have seen the lowest rates.

While one of the top destination points of expats - the U.K. - is the 31st, Turkey is listed the 53rd among the countries. Other destinations such as Qatar, Russia, Brazil, and Italy are among at low rated countries, while Costa Rica, Poland, Bahrain and Philippines are at higher ranks in the list.

The survey of InterNations, a global social network for expats, inquires why expats relocate, what their daily life is like and how satisfied they are, with a ranking listing the best and worst spots among 64 destinations across the world.

Following the success of the report's 2014 edition, the international organization has asked 14,000 expats from 195 countries and overseas territories about their life abroad. The rankings also revealed where expats enjoy the best quality of living, which countries were ideal for raising children and where could expats make the most of their budget. The research report also compares the most popular destinations for expat women versus men.

The overview listings, under topics ranging from “quality of life index” to “what expats struggle with”, stress some key findings, for instance that Russians predominantly move abroad to pursue academic goals, while British expats indend to leave their home country behind for good. According to the index, additionally, Australians and US expats alike tend to consider the cost of living abroad predominantly.
